Certainly, we do all sorts of crazy things to extend the shelf life of expensive products, but does nail polish really retain its pigment and viscosity when stored in the fridge? Truthfully, the fridge can do one positive for your varnish stash: “It helps keep the polish color true,” says celebrity manicurist Deborah Lippmann.
While it’s certainly a personal preference, Chanel celebrity manicurist Gina Viviano says storing your lacquer next to your ice cream isn’t necessary. In fact, Morales advises against keeping your favorite polishes in the refrigerator because doing so can cause them to become harder and thicker, which could in turn prevent you from achieving a smooth, even coat.
What is necessary: “Store your polish in a cool, dark place, away from daylight,” Viviano suggests.
