NYFW SS 2016 Nails: Dark and Graphic at Cushnie et Ochs

By semick

Graphic and a bit dark: The Cushnie et Ochs girl wears a beauty look that the design duo behind the label, Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs, would wear themselves. Thus, the designers became the muse for beauty that incorporates sharp, clean lines, cut-out effects and simplicity at it’s chicest—the nails playing a starring role. Christian Louboutin Beauté lead manicurist Alicia Torello relays that the designers “wanted something graphic but beautiful.” After filing the nails into an almond shape, Torello starts with a sheer coat of pink La Favorita. Then, using a striping brush, she paints a V-shape on the half moon of the nail using Sevillana, a deep, dark oxblood color, and fills in the tip of the nail with the lush hue. “It’s simple. Classic,” she says. “Beauty has been so nail art-heavy recently, and this is about being pretty, clean and chic.” —Kristyna Kane
