NYFW SS 2016 Nails: Cosmonaut Chic at Karen Walker

By semick

Leave it to New York Fashion Week to take us on a fascinating journey to an unknown destination. Inspired by life in the Soviet Union’s secret cosmonaut training base, Zvezdny Gorodok, aka, “Star City,” designer Karen Walker explores this space—unmarked on the world map—where folk-meets-utility-meets-glam.
Seizing upon the idea of 1960s space-age beauty and looking at the gold accents found in Karen Walker’s collection, lead manicurist Jin Soon Choi coats the nails in muted gold metallic polish. “Karen wanted to highlight a sense of understated glamour,” explains Choi. “She has a lot of gold colors in her collection, like on her shoes. So we tried to use a shimmery, muted gold that will complement the accessories really well.” First, she applies JINsoon Power Coat as a base to protect the nail, then paints on two coats of JINsoon Cachet (out in October). To finish, she seals the nails with JINsoon Top Gloss and shares a tip to send us on our way: “You can use this color any season—all four seasons. That’s the beauty of this color.” —Kristyna Kane
