NYFW Nails Fall 2016: Jamberry at Christian Siriano

By semick

The beauty at Fashion Week typically derives from some sort of interpretation or spin on the designer’s inspiration, but at Christian Siriano’s Fall 2016 showing, the nail design is a literal and exact match. Collaborating with Jamberry on two custom nail wraps for the show, Siriano sent the brand fabric swatches from his collection, which is inspired by Sheila Hicks’ “The Art of the Yarn” exhibit. Oversize cable-knits and thick, sumptuous lace are just two of the textures given the Siriano makeover (read: ultra feminine), and colors like chartreuse and ruby red keep the collection buoyant rather than heavy. When deciding what swatches to send, Siriano looked at how he “played with volume, texture and soft fibers” in the collection. The two designs, a cable-knit-inspired marble and a literal lace, complement every piece in the collection. “The marble print is mysterious yet visual; subtle but complex; and tipping between the boundaries of femininity and masculinity,” says Siriano. The second wrap, a glossy red negative space lace design, plays so beautifully against the MAC-painted red lip (a mix of MAC Chromographic Lip Pencil in Basic Red and MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lip Color in Fashion Legacy topped with MAC Gloss Texture), it’s hard to take your eyes off both the lips and tips—which is exactly how the beauty should be. —Molly Church
