Elegance has long been associated with designer Carolina Herrera, for both herself and her fashions. For fall, that elegance remains at the forefront—and even has a soundtrack. Herrera commissioned composer Tom Hodge to create “Capriccio for Carolina,” a musical score that taps into the drama of Beethoven with a twist of modernity, and plays the perfect backdrop to flirty ’40s-themed silhouettes highlighted in rose quartz, tiger eye, ruby, emerald and more.
No matter the musical undertones, Essie lead manicurist Gina Edwards set her sights on picking perhaps the most apropos Essie nail polish hue for a runway look centered around elegance: two coats of Lady Like. “It’s a soft, modern-day mauve,” she says. “Carolina’s collection has that ‘40s romanticism, these beautiful billowy sleeves and apalette of rich colors. We didn’t want a nail color that would fight with her collection; it needs to accent it.” Though Lady Like is a mauve, Edwards says that it’s grey base works well with all skin tones—and, naturally, with all elegant clothes. —Karie L.
