By James

Pastels and animal print match perfectly for a clean, spring look. Try the style yourself with this tutorial and these tips from Lydia’s Nails.

  • Materials Needed:

    SLIDE 1 OF 10
  • Step 1:

Paint your index finger with Zoya Tomoko, your ring finger and pinky with Revlon Minted, and your thumb and ring finger with Rescue Beauty Lounge Thank You. Let it all dry completely.

    SLIDE 2 OF 10
  • Step 2:

Take your paperclip and fold part of it out to make a point.

    SLIDE 3 OF 10
  • Step 3:

Dab some of Nicka K Classic Taupe on a piece of paper/plastic bag and take the pointed end of your paper clip and dip in into your polish. Get a decent amount of polish on the end of the paperclip.

    SLIDE 4 OF 10
  • Step 4:

Starting near the base of your ring finger and your thumb, start making oval-like shapes. I wiggle my hand when I make the shapes to give it more of a natural look. Be careful not to push too hard or you will dent your polish underneath.

    SLIDE 5 OF 10
  • Step 5:

Continue making the shapes until you are happy with the amount and placement. Make sure to leave space in between the shapes so you can outline them.

    SLIDE 6 OF 10
  • Step 6:

Take your Sinful Colors Black on Black and dab some on working surface like before. Take your paperclip and get a small amount of black on the end. You don't want a lot of polish on it, just enough to cover the silver end of your paperclip. Start outlining part of the shapes you just made. I wiggle my hand while I do it. Don't worry about it being a perfect outline, the imperfections is what makes it look so good! Don't do a full outline of the shape, you want to do C shapes that don't connect.

    SLIDE 7 OF 10
  • Step 7:

After you're done outlining your shapes, start filling in some of the empty spaces with C shapes with dots and little shapes of the black. Keep going until you're happy with how it looks. Clean up any excess you got on your fingers with a clean up brush/Q-tip dipped in acetone. Now let it dry, completely! If you rush this step, you will smudge your black outlining you just did.

    SLIDE 8 OF 10
  • Step 8:

Top everything with CND Super Shiney except your index finger.

    SLIDE 9 OF 10
  • Step 9:

Or opt for a matte finish and top everything but your index finger with NYC Matte Me Crazy.
