Nail Art Tutorial: Christmas Tree Nails

By James

It’s time to put up the Christmas tree! Francine of the Polished Mommy gives us her tutorial for turning a plain red mani into a brightly lit evergreen!

  • Step 1:

Apply a glow-y metallic red, like China Glaze Cranberry Splash, to all nails.

  • Step 2:

Take a piece of painter's tape (I prefer this to scotch tape) that is the length of your nail and tear it in half lengthwise. This way you have two perfectly straight edges. Place one end of the tape in the center of your cuticle, then place the other end towards the outer corner of the free edge of you nail. Repeat this on the other half of your nail. Adjust the tape to make the tree as wide or skinny as you like.

  • Step 3:

Apply two coats of a glitter green, such as China Glaze Winter Holly. Immediately after applying the second coat, carefully remove the tape from the nail.

  • Step 4:

Wait until the tree is dry to the touch then apply a thin coat of a multi-colored glitter, like China GlazePizzaz.

  • Step 5:

Using either a dotting tool or a toothpick, create garland around the tree by applying a fine glitter, likeChina Glaze Glitter all the Way, in a zigzag motion, starting at the base of the tree and working your way up.

  • Step 6:

For the tree topper I used a star craft glitter. Apply a small dot of the glitter polish used for the garland at the very tip of the tree, then place the star sequin.

  • Step 7:

Apply top coat, then sit back and admire your festive new nails!
