Nail Art How To: Shimmery Splatter Nails

Nail Art How To: Shimmery Splatter Nails

Precise, detailed nail art certainly has its place, but it’s nice to lighten up occasionally and leave your designs to chance (or, technically — physics). Arm yourself with a straw and a few favorite colors, and try this technique shown by Sassy Shelly.

  • Supplies needed:

    • OPI Black Onyx (used as the base color)
    • OPI San Francisco Collection shimmers: Dining Al FriscoEmbarca Dare YaPeace, Love & OPIHaven't The FoggiestMuir Muir On The Wall
    • Straw, cut to 4 inches in length

    SLIDE 1 OF 6
  • Step 1:

Grab a straw and choose your colors! You can use as many or as little as you want. I chose to go with fall colors so I used the shimmers from the OPI San Francisco Collection
Any size straw will do, just cut it to about 4 inches long. Paint your base color and tape off your fingers, or you will have a mess on your hands (literally!).

  • Step 2:

To get the polish into the straw, just lift out the brush and scrape some off into the end of the straw.

  • Step 3:

Working with one color at a time, blow through the straw to splatter the polish on each of your nails. You want to blow hard and fast. And yes, it goes everywhere! So make sure to have a paper towel down.

  • Step 4:

Repeat step 4 with each color until your desired look is achieved.

  • Step 5:

Remove the tape, clean edges and cuticles with a Q-tip or clean up brush and nail polish remover. Seal in your design with topcoat. Voilà! Now you can admire your beautiful abstract splatter nail art. Give it a try! You'll be surprised at how quick and easy it really is!
