Nail Art How To: DIY Ombre Heart Nails

Nail Art How To: DIY Ombre Heart Nails

03.04.13

By Elma

This design combines clean and crisp ombre stripes with tiny, adorable hearts! It’s nearly irresistible!

You’ll need a few things: a base polish color, three different shades of pink, nail art striping tape and a nail art brush or toothpick.

  • Step 1

    1. After prepping with base coat, paint your nails with your base color. I'm using a cream shade here. Make sure your nails are completely dry before moving on to the next step! I like to use a fast-dry topcoat to speed up the waiting time here.

  • Step 2

    2. Apply four pieces of nail art striping tape to each nail in a diagonal pattern, starting at one corner. Try to space them out as evenly as possible. If you don't have striping tape, you can find it online at most of the major online shopping websites. (It's fairly cheap and has a ton of uses!)

  • Step 3

    3. Working one nail at a time, fill in the spaces between your tape lines using a nail art brush or a toothpick. I'd suggest putting drops of polish onto a piece of wax paper and working from it like an artist's palette. I went from the darkest pink to the lightest pink to create an ombre look.

  • Step 4

    4. Carefully and slowly remove your striping tape immediately after you have filled in the lines. You should have clean, crisp stripes remaining!

  • Step 5

    5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 on all of your nails, continuing to fill in the stripes and immediately removing the tape.

  • Step 6

    6. Using your nail art brush or toothpick, carefully draw tiny hearts on the opposite side of your nails.

    7. Let your artwork set, and then finish with top coat!

This design can be modified to suit individual tastes. There are tons of combinations you can make between the base color, stripe colors, and tiny shapes that would make this uniquely you! —Sarah Waite
