Us: How long have you been making your own polish?
I have been making my own nail polish for about 2 years now; I started my brand in April of 2014.
What’s your “day job”?
I have 3 daughters and baby boy. My “day job” is cooking, cleaning, and homework, etc. All of my free time goes into creating new products, drinking wine, and keeping up with amazing friends I’ve made within the nail community. Sounds like a lot of work, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
What makes your line of lacquers unique?
One of the things that I love most about my indie line is that It offer so many different types of polish. I have: jellies, crellies, glitters, holographics, and thermals. I rarely stick to one style; I like to have something for everyone in my collections. I also love being a rebel! When everyone else is releasing neons, I’m releasing thermals. If holographics are the trend, I will make some amazing glitters and crèmes.
Is there a story behind your brand’s name?
Everyone thinks that MTL stands for my city Montreal, Canada. However, it really stands for My True Love. My husband used to save my name is his cell under MTL. We thought it would be a great name for the business, and so, MTL Creations was born.
What’s the inspiration behind your lacquer colors?
TV shows, holidays, and seasons inspire me. Right now, all I can think about are pumpkins, apples, and the changing leaves.
What is your best seller right now?
My current best seller is St. Catherine from my Montreal Thermal Collection.
What is your favorite polish you’ve ever created?
My all time favorite polish would definitely have to be Jason.
What’s one tip you wished you knew when you started your own indie line?
How much time and effort it really takes into building a one-woman indie business from the ground up.
Any spoilers you’d like to share about your future collections?
I have a new collection to be released September 15th called Squared Circle. A few WWE superstars inspired me to create them. The collection also includes a special holographic polish dedicated to the late Rowdy Roddy Piper.
