Meet Heather Harper, creator of Loaded Lacquer. She’s been frankening polishes for longer than most, and we’re so glad she finally launched her own brand. Loaded Lacquer lives up to its name – her polishes are chock-full of glitter and color!
Us: How long have you been making your own polish?
Heather: I started frankening my own polish back in 2009. I would take mainstream polishes that I already owned and mix them together to make new polish creations. There were so many polishes I wanted to create, but didn’t have the polishes to create them. In 2010, I started testing raw ingredients to make my own polish from scratch and I have been doing it ever since. I tested ingredients and formulas for nearly three years before launching my shop in November 2013.
What is your day job?
Loaded Lacquer is my full time career. I am also a military wife and a mom of a 3-year-old boy. Before becoming a stay at home mom and building Loaded Lacquer, I was a branch manager for a top financial institution. Loaded Lacquer is the best of both worlds because I am able to work at my dream job from home and be with my family as well.
What is your best seller right now?
My best seller right now is Bento Box from the Summer Sushi Bar Collection. It is a fuchsia/plum jelly base with purple/blue shifting square and micro hex iridescent glitters. It is incredibly unique and practically glows in the dark during the day! It’s an absolute must have!
Do any of your polish look totally different layered over a colored base?
Yes, Tropical Moment from the Hula Girl Collection completely transforms when it is worn over a black base! It’s magical!

What is your favorite polish you’ve ever created?
My favorite polish from my line is Mintallica. It is a mix of holographic gunmetal hexagon glitters with matte mint green hexagons and dots in all different sizes. The combination of the gunmetal and mint is the perfect match!

How did you begin creating your own polishes?
I have always been nail polish-obsessed and my love for indie polish began in 2008. I kept thinking of polish ideas that I would love to see a brand make and instead of waiting, I thought it would be fun to try and make it myself. After doing a lot of frankening, I realized I had an eye for creating unique polishes and my husband encouraged me to share them with the world. The very first polish idea that I ever had is actually in my collection: it’s called Vintage Metals.
