This week, we got to meet Carolyn, the sweet maker behind the shimmery brand known as Liquid Sky Lacquer. Get to know her better, and get her tips for starting your own indie.
What is your day job?
I am a full time student majoring in the field of psychobiology.
How did you begin creating your own polishes?
I saw a person on Instagram making their own polish, and I thought it was totally awesome, so I bought my own kit!
What makes your line of lacquers unique?
I offer a huge selection of different styles and types of polishes. I try to restock very frequently, and release new colors generally every two weeks.
Do any of your polishes have a totally different look layered over a colored base?
My polish So Delicious looks completely different over a black base because it has iridescence within it.
Is there a story behind your brands name?
As you know, polish is quite addictive, and the name Liquid Sky is a street name for heroin, which is one of the most addictive drugs out there. I thought it was fitting.
What’s the inspiration behind your lacquer colors?
Everything and anything, from what I’m feeling, to holidays, movies, and music.
What is your best seller right now?
What is your favorite polish you ever created?
I don’t have just one favorite, I like so many of them for different reasons.
Other than your own, what is your favorite brand to use?
What’s one tip you wished you knew when you started your own indie line?
You have to have or develop a thick skin.
Any spoilers you’d like to share about future collections?
I’m collaborating with Carissa from Freak Show Polish on duo sets every couple of months! I’m starting on my St. Patricks Day Collection, and a big exclusive collection for one of my retailers, holos involved ;D
