Meet Rachel Griffin, creator of indie brand Glam Polish! Each of her shades has an extra element, like holo sparkle or glitter – and she has some limited edition Halloween shades! Find out more in our Q&A below…
How long have you been making your own polish?
I started making polish as a hobby at the beginning of 2012, I launched our first shades online in November 2012.
What’s your “day job”?
Glam Polish is my full time job.
How did you begin creating your own polishes?
I had a nail blog called Glam Polish in 2011/2012 when indie polish first became popular. I was bored of the options offered by mainstream polish brands at the time so I started collecting solvent-resistant glitters from a couple of suppliers and had a lot of fun mixing my own blends of glitter shades.
What makes your line of lacquers unique?
I like to think of Glam Polish as very feminine and sparkly. I don’t make a lot of simple shades; every shade has extra ingredients added for a unique finish. I love glitter mixes in holographic bases, holographic shades with extra glitter, and glass flecks added to give them more sparkle and depth.
Do any of your polishes have a totally different look layered over a colored base?
We have released a lot of color-shifting shades. Each polish in our Masters of Illusion collection has a different effect when swatched over a colored base. My favorite is Prest-O Change-O.
What’s the inspiration behind your lacquer colors?
I take a lot of inspiration for collections from my favorite TV shows, movies and musical theater. This year we have released collections inspired by Dexter, Hairspray and Glee.
What is your best seller right now?
POW! has been our biggest seller this year.
What is your favorite polish you’ve ever created?
It is really hard to pick a favorite as there have been many I really liked over the last three years. But one I have always loved is Fruit of The Poisonous Tree!
Other than your own, what’s your favorite brand of polish to use?
I love the original brands that I came across when I first got into indies. Smitten Polish and Girly Bits are two of my favorites and they are both run by really incredible ladies.
What’s one tip you wished you knew when you started your own indie line?
I wish I’d known more about the ins & outs of working with international stockists and distributors as I’ve had to learn a lot along the way.
Any spoilers you’d like to share about your future collections?
We have some spooky Limited Edition Halloween shades including some really fun sparkly holo glitters!
