Meet Brandi C. Miller (Chief of Operations) and Charvass Taylor (Creative Director) of Finger Bang Polish, LLC! We talked to them one-on-one to get the details on their budding brand.
What’s your “day job”?
Brandi C. Miller is a Deputy Director of Real Estate Procurement Policy for the Department of Veterans where she acts as the Deputy Real Estate Officer for the Veterans Health Administration.
Charvass Taylor is a Senior Accounting Technician where she is responsible for accounts payable actions necessary to manage her company’s 20-property portfolio.
How did you begin creating your own polishes?
The establishment of Finger Bang Polish, LLC began during a conversation between girlfriends in December 2013. During the conversation there was a joke about how local nail salons lacked fashionable colors and were often toxic. We joked, “we should make our own polish!” We laughed and then fell silent. We began to research what it took to make polish and develop an indie brand. The rest is history. In February 2014, we established Finger Bang Polish, LLC. We continued to research bases and supplies that are non-toxic and launched in October 2014.
What makes your line of lacquers unique?
Our polishes are unique because they are “5-free” of Toluene, Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP), Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin and Camphor. Although a lot of major and indie brands are 3-free, we have found that not as many of them are 5-free.
Do any of your polishes have a totally different look layered over a colored base?
Finger Bang has developed many polishes that are vibrant, rich and can stand alone. However, most recently we have developed glitter toppers that can be layered to give a one-of-a-kind look. Therefore, we encourage our “Dolls” (or followers) to layer the polish and design them to make them their own. Additionally, during our launch in October 2014, we reached out to local nail artists to help us to achieve this goal. Specifically, we hired the expertise of Celeste Hampton, Nail Technician of Celestial Nails and Oxygen Network’s Nail’d It! contestant for our launch at the Plush Beauty Box in Washington, DC.
Is there a story behind your brand’s name?
We chose the name Finger Bang because it describes the personality of ourselves and our Dolls. We are strong, empowered and do everything big and with a “Bang,” especially our manicures.
What’s the inspiration behind your lacquer colors?
Our polishes are generally developed in collections by season and by whatever and whomever inspires us most. For example, the inspiration behind our 15+ colors in the 2014 Fall/Winter Collection was the vibrant girly-girl within each of us. Our Fall/Winter Collection ranges in color from seasonal shades like Wine & Chocolate, to 2014’s Pantone Color of the Year, to deep purples like Trippy.
What is your favorite polish you’ve ever created?
The best polish we’ve ever created was Trippy and Lucky Charm. Trippy is also our current best seller.
This month we developed a collection for our Doll Angela Perry, who is the radio show host of The Flow and the relationship and dating blogger behind This Date is Over. The four-color collection includes colors inspired by her company, radio show topics, and blog posts she’s done. The set will be available on our website.
This month we will also launch a collection for our Doll Teia Hill, Founder of The Date Whisperer, LLC for the monthly “Date Me” subscription.
