Indie Polish Spotlight: Cadillacquer

Indie Polish Spotlight: Cadillacquer

By Junaid

We’ve seen a lot of polish in our day, and yet Cadillacquer’s colors made us stop dead in our tracks. Don’t get us wrong, we have found so many fabulous indies, but some of these colors (Masterpiece, 9 Crimes) made us fall in love all over again! We interviewed Cadillacquer‘s creator, Madeleine, so get the scoop below!

Us: How long have you been making your own polish?
Madeleine: I started mixing in November 2012 and launched my brand late January 2013.

How did you begin creating your own polishes?
That was a real long process. I started to collect nail polish in 2011. Because all American nail polish brands are so expensive in Switzerland (where I live), I ordered them over the internet directly from the States. I also read a lot of blogs and quickly became a nail polish hoarder. When the indie trend first started I wasn’t really into it. I thought is was too much glitter and I couldn’t wear them at work. But when I ordered my first indies… oh boy! I was hooked right away. From that moment on I kept on buying nothing but indie polishes. 2012 the idea popped to my mind to create my own indie line, although marketing of such a product from Switzerland would not be the easiest thing. When I had everything sorted out and all materials together, I started mixing and had so many ideas that I could have about 40 colors in my first collection. I picked out the 9 I liked the most and my first collection was born.

What makes your line of lacquers unique?
A friend of mine recently made the statement that my polishes are classy but not loud. I think that brings it to the point. Moreover I also invest a great lot of effort into my product’s quality. It also matters a lot to me that my polishes may be applied without “undies”.

Is there a story behind your brand’s name?
Not really. Of course I admire Cadillac cars, but most of all I like the sound of Cadillacquer. I definitely wanted something short, one word, which you can easily remember.

Cadillacquer Yeah Science!

Yeah Science!

What’s the inspiration behind your lacquer colors?
My favorite movies, TV series’, songs and games. I’m a real series junkie, so most of my polishes are inspired by series like Dexter, Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, True Blood, Prison Break, Buffy and more.

What is your best seller right now?
That’s hard to say, I think at the moment it’s Yeah Science!, Say My Name and Masterpiece.

Other than your own, what’s your favorite brand of polish to use?

Any spoilers you’d like to share about your future collections?
I’m very excited about my next collection! It consists of 9 new colors, 6 shimmers and 3 glitters. The collection is called Seek The Fire and is inspired by my favorite PS3 game ever: The Last of Us.
