If you’ve ever tried Poison Apple – a red color changing polish that even smells like candy apples – you know firsthand the beauty of Black Cat Lacquer’s polishes. So many are thermal, sparkly, and bright; we can’t keep our hands off them! So get to know the brand’s maker, Sabrina Randell, as we talk to her about her indie line.
Is there a story behind your brand’s name?
My name was inspired by my black cat named Scurvy and also my love for the gothic culture.
How long have you been making your own polish?
I have been frankening polish for about 4 years and started my own line about 3 years ago. I’m so grateful to be making a living from doing something I absolutely love doing.
Chivalry Is Dead
What’s your “day job”?
I am a stay at home mother to two beautiful little girls that keep me very occupied.
How did you begin creating your own polishes?
I have been a polishaholic since I was a teenager and when I saw people had the capability of making their own I jumped at the chance to do it myself!
Heart And Soul
What makes your line of lacquers unique?
I’ve always strived to have very creative color combinations that set us apart from the rest. I love coming up with quirky new ideas and turning them into little works of art!
Do any of your polishes have a totally different look layered over a colored base?
All of our glitter toppers are fantastic for changing up any mani! Libra is one of my fave glitter toppers right now! It looks great over pastels and darker colors! It has translucent color shifting glitters that look different when layered over other colors.
What’s the inspiration behind your lacquer colors?
I am inspired by music, movies, traveling and art. I usually get inspiration from an idea and then make the polishes around those ideas.
What is your best seller right now?
Our best seller right now is the fabulous Poison Apple. It is a thermal polish that goes from bright red when warm to dark red when cold with holo dust and it’s scented like candy apples.
Love My Way
What is your favorite polish you’ve ever created?
My favorite polish I’ve created has to be any of our thermal colors. I love that when you’re wearing it people think you’ve done some really cool nail art without all the effort!
My Blue Valentine
Other than your own, what’s your favorite brand of polish to use?
I love Zoya, Essie, OPI, Azature, Deborah Lippmann, Chanel and Marc Jacobs Beauty for mainstream polishes. I also love indie polishes to death! My fave indie brands right now would have to be Enchanted Polish, Glam Polish, Different Dimensions, Dollish Polish, Jindie Nails, Colors by Llarowe, Serum No. 5 and Hare Polish.
Any spoilers you’d like to share about your future collections?
We are currently working on our Spring collection that will be released soon and I have 2 words, Pastel Sparkles!
