If you like to be a little mystified by you new lacquer colors, you’ll love Arcane Lacquer. Meet the indie’s creator, Bec Russell, as we get to know her better.
Us: How long have you been making your own polish?
Bec: Not long, about a year. Arcane’s first birthday was in March.
What’s your “day job”?
I work in Health Administration, it pays the bills! 🙂
How did you begin creating your own polishes?
I started out collecting nail polish three years ago, a year later, I started my blog. I found myself needing a creative outlet whilst all my art and craft supplies were boarded up in boxes when I moved house. From blogging, it felt like the natural progression.
What makes your line of lacquers unique?
I seemed to have acquired the label of “work friendly” polish. And recently Christine from Serenity Nails said she felt Arcane Lacquer epitomises indies for real, grown women who have style. I love a big loud and colourful polish as much as the next girl but I also felt the indie market lacked a soft and subtle brand.
Do any of your polishes have a totally different look layered over a colored base?
Yes, Repeat Caveat looks stunning layered over black or purple. Over black, the magenta shimmer is a strong focus, while over purple the black glitters pop out.
Is there a story behind your brand’s name?
It was originally just Arcane as my very old labels show, the somehow it evolved into Arcane Lacquer. Arcane means “known or understood by very few; mysterious; secret, etc.” So I’ll let the readers figure out why I picked this word, 😉
What’s the inspiration behind your lacquer colors?
I’m inspired by the environment around me, I can even be inspired by feelings or moods I’m in when I start creating. I never really sit down with a picture in front of me and say “that’s what I’m aiming for.”
What is your best seller right now?
Little Supernovas is probably the biggest seller right now.
What is your favorite polish you’ve ever created?
I’d go with the shade that started it all for me, Dreary Days. I created this while playing around when I first got all my supplies, it was the first polish I ever made.
Other than your own, what’s your favorite brand of polish to use?
I love Femme Fatale Cosmetics, Emily de Molly, Gloss ‘n Sparkle for indies. For commercial, my fave brands would be OPI and China Glaze.
Any spoilers you’d like to share about your future collections?
Nothing I’m willing to share just yet, but expect to see more like the shades from the Soft Pulses collection (pictured above). I’ve got some exciting shades planned for the year.
