How to Remove Glitter Nail Polish

How to Remove Glitter Nail Polish

By Elma

Glitter nail polish is fun to wear but a pain to take off! It’s tempting to try and peel off but doing that can ruin the nail plate. Instead, with some household items and a bit of time, you can remove your glitter polish easily and pain free!

For this tutorial, I am wearing Pink Tiara by JulieG, a pink glitter in a pink base.

  • Materials Needed

    First gather your materials.

-Acetone nail polish remover (any brand is fine)

    -Cotton balls

    -Aluminum foil

  • Step 1

Soak the cotton ball in your acetone nail polish remover and place squarely on the nail. Next, tear a square of aluminum foil and wrap it tightly around your finger.  The purpose is to create pressure on the cotton ball to allow it to soak down the polish as well as to keep it in place. Feel free to crumple the foil up around your finger, as you will not be able to reuse the foil afterwards.

Do this for all 5 fingers on one hand and then wait at least 5 minutes before attempting to remove the foil. Timing is a factor here in order to allow the polish remover to break down the glitter polish base.

  • Step 2

When it’s time to remove, place slight pressure on the nail and wiggle the cotton ball and foil off. The majority of your glitter nail polish will slide off with it! Take a second cotton ball to remove any remaining polish left on the nail.

  • Step 3

After you have removed all the polish, use your favorite hand lotion or cuticle oil to rehydrate and soften the skin around your nails. Acetone can be drying to the hands, leaving the skin white and rough feeling. Proper hydration is essential in the care of your skin.
