The name of her blog, Заметки скромного лако маньяка, might be a little hard for us English speakers to pronounce, but it translates roughly into “Humble Remarks of a Polish Maniac.” But you probably know her better by her Instagram handle – @tanya_wish. We talked to Tanya one-on-one (well, with the help of a Russian to English translator) to get the story behind her nails.
Us: What got you into nail art?
Tanya: I have always loved to paint my nails. And one day I found discovered a nail blog on the Internet. There were amazingly beautiful swatches and photos. It inspired me to create my own blog.
How long have you been writing on your blog?
About two years old.
Tell us about either the first bottle of nail polish or first manicure you remember having.
I do not remember the name of my very first nail polish. But I remember that at the time in school, I once painted my nails with dark blue lacquer. It was exciting at the time and got me hooked!
What sort of things will readers find on your blog?
In my blog, I review polishes, mainly ones from Russia. I also do reviews on renowned world brands. I do a lot of nail art, but my favorite is nail stamping. Lately on Instagram, I’ve also been trying to do video tutorials.
What’s your favorite nail art you’ve done?
Butterfly manicures have become my favorite. I wore this manicure on my birthday this year.
What is your “day job?”
I work as a technical writer and write documents that are used by developers of computer games. My job is not related to programming, it is more creativity and writing.
How do you juggle nails and other aspects of your life?
Unfortunately, sometimes I have very little time to do nail art and sometimes have to sacrifice sleep. But I get so much pleasure from nails that it’s worth it. Caution: don’t follow my example, it could be dangerous to your health!
What’s one tip/“secret” to a successful blog you can share?
In order to become a successful blog, you need to treat your work with love. Show exactly what you like, tell about what is most interesting to you, making it all sincerity and with pleasure. Do not be afraid to get acquainted with other bloggers – it’s very exciting
What is your absolute favorite color of polish?
Most of all, I love white nail polish. This color is beautiful in itself, but it is also the perfect canvas for creativity.
How many different polishes do you own?
I have never counted up all the nail polishes in my collection. I assume that I have about 500.
Which celebrity’s nails would you jump at the chance to design?
Oh, it’s a very difficult question. I guess I could be inspired by one of the songs of Lana Del Rey. I’m thinking roses, thorns, dark, rich colors like black and red.
What’s your favorite nail trend?
I do not have a favorite trend, aside with my love of stamping. It helps create perfect pictures for those who cannot do detailed hand painting.
What’s the most surprising thing that has happened since you started your blog?
For me, it’s still pretty amazing that many brands and stores have offer to collaborate with me. I even had a polish named after me.
Have any nail art tips?
These may be well known, but they’re my favorite. To clean up around a manicure, you can use a brush dipped in nail polish remover. To make cleanup easier around your cuticles, you can apply Scotch tape around your cuticles before stamping. You can also use Scotch tape to clean your stamper off. And lastly – if you take pleasure in doing your nails, your designs will always come out better!
