Nail It!: What got you into nail art?
Shipra: I’ve been into nail polish since middle school. I still fondly remember my olive green metallic nail polish that I used to wear all the time.

Tell us about your book!
My book was something I started dreaming about since I was a little kid. I started writing this book in college to make my childhood dream a reality. I used a lot of inspiration from real-life to make the book more realistic – it’s a philosophical romance about an Indian-American girl that works in Marketing/Advertising, and her crush on a colleague and how she struggles with it throughout. She takes an epic trip to India and learns more about the true meaning of love and life.

How did your book become a reality?
My book became a reality when I submitted it constantly to different publishers and I was finally accepted. I was ecstatic about it and re-read the book 3 times and edited it all by myself.

What is your absolute favorite color of polish?
Green and blue. I am crushing on holographics and thermals lately!

How many different polishes do you own?
I own about 300 – 400? I really don’t know, but you can say that it’s more than enough, but I’m not about to quit! I also have a massive makeup collection as well.

Which celebrity’s nails would you jump at the chance to design? What would you put on her nails?
Queen Elizabeth! I don’t know why, since she probably gets pampered enough, but it would definitely be an honor. I just feel like she is someone who would have a lot of worldly experience and information to share.

What’s your favorite nail art you’ve done? What inspired you to try it?
I did sugar skulls last Halloween (2012) and I used Zoya Shelby and fimo pieces, and to me, it turned out adorable!!

What’s your favorite nail trend?
I really love the texture and holographic trend. I was surprised when I really fell in love with textures, though.

What’s your favorite beauty trend?
Contouring and highlighting!! I’ve been obsessed with it – my favorite contouring and highlighting product is the Live, Love, and Laugh Vitality Disc from IT Cosmetics!! Obsessed! Oh, and purple lipstick! How I love my purple lipstick.

Besides polish, what is your favorite beauty product?
Lipstick!! I have a HUMONGOUS lipstick collection and I wear most of them too!

When did you realize your blog was a success?
I started getting emails asking me questions about certain topics, such as cuticle care, foundation and contouring, etc., and then I realized that people actually find my blog good enough to find answers and to read reviews and look at pictures! It was definitely a great feeling! ☺

How long have you been writing on your blog?
I have been writing my blog since 2010, but before it was actually a childhood memories and cooking blog. I decided to focus more on nail polish and makeup when I realized that it was more of a hobby for me than cooking. I started writing about nail polish on February 17, 2012, so it’s been almost 2 years!!

What is the best part of being in the business of beauty?
Best part of being in the business of beauty is all the sneak peeks! I get super excited being one of the first people to see new products in press releases or even in sample form. It’s like opening presents early on Christmas! 😉

What was your most recent impulse buy?
The MAC Riri Holiday Collection lipsticks in Pleasure Bomb and Bad Girl Riri – I actually got my hands on the last ones that were in store. It was so exciting!

What do you do outside your blog?
Outside of the blog, I’m a stay-at-home mommy to a 2-year old little boy. Mostly, I’m running errands at the local grocery store and then coming home and playing Legos and Hot Wheels. 😉

Are you close with other bloggers in the community?
I am. I definitely have a few blogger friends who I seek advice from and gossip with! I’m definitely blessed to have them in my life because I wouldn’t be where I am without them!

How do you juggle nails and other aspects of your life? Do you have a routine?
My routine is swatching and reviewing nail polish and makeup during my little boy’s nap or during the time he goes to school. I try my very best to do it during the time everyone is busy. Sometimes, my wonderful husband watches our son when I really have a lot on my plate.

What else would you be doing if you didn’t have the blog?
My dream job was to create commercials – I’m definitely one who prefers to write, so that would definitely have been something I’d be doing.

What is your favorite beauty tool?
I’m really, really fond of my makeup brushes! I own more than a few!
