Bloggers You Should Know: Lucie of Lucy’s Stash

By Elma

Ever wondered about the face behind the long, squared-off nails and crisp designs of Lucy’s Stash? Meet Lucie Hanuskova, the blogger behind it all! To get to know her a little better, we asked her a few questions about what it’s like to be in the blogging world. Here’s what she said…

Us: What got you into nail art?
Lucie: I’ve always been artistic and nail art is just another outlet that I have tried besides canvas painting, drawing, music, etc. I’ve been trying different nail art since my early teens, but back then it was usually just a single needle-drag technique.

How long have you been writing on your blog?
I started my blog in early February 2010 and I have been blogging regularly since.

What sort of things will readers find on your blog?
They will mostly find nail art designs, tutorials and nail polish swatches but occasionally I review hand and nail care products and jewelry matched to nails.

What’s one of your favorite posts?
For me, it’s the review of Picture Polish Demeter where I’ve used a dandelion as a prop. The pictures just came out so beautifully! You can view the post here

What’s your favorite nail art you’ve done? What inspired you to try it?
Choosing just one design is one of the hardest things to do for me to do. But if I had to choose, it would be the dandelion design that is currently in the header of my blog. It took me a long time to paint and I loved the result! I love the delicate look of dandelions and at that time I had been seeing manicures with stamped dandelions and I’ve decided to try and paint them freehand.

What is your “day job?”
I work as a media and research support as my main job and blogging usually takes up the rest of my day. I’ve recently started a part-time college course to be a nail technician, so that’s another activity that takes up the rest of my free time.

How do you juggle nails and other aspects of your life? Do you have a routine?
Lately I’ve been almost too busy with blogging and not having enough free time so that has to change soon. It is hard to find the balance because I love to do everything nails and I wish I could do it as my full-time job. I usually spend at least half of the weekend and at least four evenings doing nails and spend the rest of the evening editing photos and writing posts. That could be considered a routine, right? Luckily my fiancée is very understanding…

What’s one “secret” to a successful blog you can share?
I would say that good pictures are one of the most important things on the blog. If the blog has great pictures, then I will be more likely to follow it, even if it’s in a different language.

What is your absolute favorite color of polish?
Red. It is my favorite color both for my nails and in life. It’s classic and timeless.

How many different polishes do you own?
Are we talking brands or bottles? 😉 I haven’t got an exact count but I’m definitely past the 2000 bottles mark from over 50 different brands/indie makers. Illamasqua Omen nail art 13

Which celebrity’s nails would you jump at the chance to design?
Rihanna – she is not afraid to wear bright colors!

What would you put on her nails?
I would create a bold and edgy patterned design for her!

What’s your favorite nail trend?
I’m currently loving different types of half-moon designs, especially lace ones which are very pretty and romantic, but I also love edgy and colorful patterns.

What was your most recent impulse buy?
The whole limited edition collection from Picture Polish, an Aussie brand. They came up with duo/multichrome polishes with holographic glitter in them. I couldn’t resist!

What else would you be doing if you didn’t have the blog?
I think I would be painting and drawing which is another artistic activity that I like to do but I have absolutely no time for it!

Are you close with other bloggers in the community?
Definitely, or at least I try to be as much as the time permits. I am part of a nail art challenge group called Nailvengers Assemble, it’s five UK bloggers and we are quite close and know each other in person. I like how nail community is quite tight-knit and that us bloggers often help each other.
