Bloggers You Should Know: Katy of Nailed It

Meet Katy Parsons, the blogger and nail artist behind Nailed It. Get to know her better as we ask her a few questions about how she got started and what it’s like to fill her shoes.

Us: What got you into nail art?
Katy: My sister! She introduced me to Konad stamping, which started a beautiful, glittering snowball effect that has now developed into my nail art obsession.

What is your absolute favorite color of polish?
While I’m not advocating loving one of your children more than the other, I’m pretty wildly obsessed with Au Champagne, the color I used in this tutorial.

How many different polishes do you own?
It’s upwards of 1000 by now.

Which celebrity’s nails would you jump at the chance to design?
Zooey Deschanel and Katy Perry. They both obviously love it, and they’d be the most fun to hang out with.

What’s your favorite nail art you’ve done? What inspired you to try it?
My favorite recent design is this fun floral look. I hated to take it off! It was actually inspired by a storage cube I picked up at Target.

What’s your favorite nail trend?
Bling. Lots of bling.

What’s your favorite beauty trend?
The ombre hairstyle. I hope it never goes out of style, and that hair stylists everywhere master the technique.

Besides polish, what is your favorite beauty product?
I’ve got blonde lashes, so I need plenty of oomph to make them stand out. For that, I’ve been nuts about Covergirl’s Clump Crusher. I’ve also recently been introduced to Pureology, the best damn shampoo/conditioner I’ve ever used.

What is your favorite beauty tool?
My flat iron. It tames my mane.

When did you realize your blog was a success?
When I found out a magazine wanted to feature my nail art, I knew I had jumped the gap from novice nail enthusiast to full blown blogger.

How long have you been writing on your blog?
The blog began in October 2011. So two and a half years!

What is the best part of being in the business of beauty?
I do nails. I’m not wise in the ways of hair or skin, but being exposed to it all has made me take notice and take charge of all things beauty-related. It’s inspiring.

What do you do outside your blog?
I’m currently finishing up nail school, and I work a full-time day job in marketing. Beyond that, I’m a diagnosed TV-show binge watcher, novice skier, and EDM music lover. Anything with friends is a good thing!

Are you close with other bloggers in the community?
I don’t personally live near many bloggers, so I’m not terribly close with anyone. I do reach out to girls from time to time for advice and to give them the kudos on their work that they so readily deserve.

How do you juggle nails and other aspects of your life? Do you have a routine?
I’m a terrible juggler. Even sending out the responses to these questions was a struggle! Nail art is something I love though, so I make time where I can. Multitasking is also something I’ve gotten better at. Managing a calendar makes it easier as well.
