Bloggers You Should Know: Jen Karr

By Elma

Meet Jen Karr, the blogger behind The PolishAholic!

How did you get into nails?
I got into nails after biting my nails for my entire life. About four years ago I decided to finally kick the habit, so I started buying polish as a way to reward myself. I started really getting into doing my nails and trying nail art after I discovered blogs. It opened up a whole new world to me!

What is your favorite polish color?
I love green polish, every shade of it…even the ones that most people think are hideous!

Which celebrity’s nails would you jump at the chance to do?
Katy Perry, I love that she always has fun nails. She’s not afraid to have crazy designs on her nails and I appreciate that. I imagine being her manicurist would be a lot of fun!

What’s your favorite nail trend?
I love texture, whether it is very fine matte glitter or nails dusted with flocking power to make them appear fuzzy… I can’t get enough. I’m not a big risk taker with fashion or makeup so I experiment on my nails. The fact that it’s become trendy is pretty great!

What is your favorite current beauty trend?
I don’t follow beauty trends too closely aside from what is going on in nails.  I don’t follow makeup trends mostly because I’d go broke between buying it and nail polish!

Favorite beauty product?
Lately I’ve been obsessed with Kat Von D’s Tattoo Foundation. I feel like I’m always on the hunt for a foundation that has great coverage and stays put all day. It seems like I’ve finally found the perfect one for me!

What is the biggest beauty or nail mistake that you are seeing right now?
I wouldn’t necessarily call it a mistake since I think it’s just a case of different strokes for different folks, but I don’t really care for extreme shaped nails like Stilettos or Duck Nails. They just seem so impractical to me.

Do you have any other hobbies?
I really enjoy going to concerts. I love getting new music and losing myself in it. Going to see a band or musician live is like my escape from reality. There are few things I enjoy more than that!

What is your favorite nail design that you created?
One of my favorites was the design I did for a No Doubt concert I attended back in November 2012. Usually when I do nail art I do the same thing on every nail, but for that concert I couldn’t make my mind up so I used all my options and each nail was different. I got so many compliments on that manicure; it has made me want to step out of my box more often when I’m doing my nails for a special event.

No Doubt Nails

Most outrageous nail design?
One manicure that was bordering on outrageous was my “fuzzy nail sweaters.” I posted it back in March 2012. I did them by sprinkling flocking power from the craft store onto my nail polish while it was wet. I loved how it turned out, but it seemed to be a very polarizing look. I still chuckle when I come across the manicure on Pinterest and people have commented about how it looks gross!  I don’t think I’ve ever done something where so many people loved it and an equal amount of people thought it was the most disgusting nail look ever.

Fuzzy Manicure

Do you have a favorite band? What design would you put on its members’ nails?
My favorite band is No Doubt, I can’t even imagine what I’d do for Gwen’s nails! She’s been rocking black and white houndstooth nails lately that have looked great! Maybe I’d mix it up and do a couple of the designs I did on my own nails for when I went to their concert in November!

What are your trend predictions for 2013?
I think we’ll see a lot more texture this year. Quite a few brands are dipping their toes into texture for Spring. It makes me excited to see what else they will come up with for the rest of the year!
