We all know medical school is tough. Some self-medicate with coffee, others cope with yoga, but Eva Klinman paints her nails. And not just any sort of painting. Eva, the blogger behind nail design blog Flight of Whimsy, paints gorgeous patterns that can put many Pinterest manis to shame. After featuring Eva’s fun French rainbow nails in our last print issue, we interviewed her to find out more about her amazing talent. Read on to see both her thoughts and some of her best art.
What got you into nail art?
I was doing my psychiatry rotation, and I needed something to keep me sane. My friend had reintroduced me to nail polish at her wedding (some 3 months prior) and I just started! I was denied polish as a child, so it was a rocky start, but I quickly learned to love my tiny canvases!
What is your absolute favorite color of polish?
How many different polishes do you own?
What’s your favorite nail art you’ve done? What inspired you to try it?
It’s really hard to pick just one! My two favorites are probably peacock feathers (my bedroom is covered in them. I just looked up one day and said “yup, time to try these”) and textured butterflies. I always loved butterfly wing nails, and my textured orange polishes were just begging to be used!
What’s your favorite nail trend?
Besides polish, what is your favorite beauty product?
I actually don’t wear any other beauty things. But if I had to pick, eye shadow (because it too can be bright and colorful)
When did you realize your blog was a success?
My blog is a success? Probably when I received my first request to review polish-related items (by the Born Pretty Store, in June)
How long have you been writing on your blog?
One year as of September 29th!
What was your most recent impulse buy?
A bottle of I Love Nail Polish Birefringence. [Nail It! note: It’s a stunning holographic purple/gold, but also has tones of a myriad of other colors appear in certain lighting. Check it out!]
Do you work in fashion outside of your blog?
Nope. I’m working towards an MD/PhD. I do science!
What else would you be doing if you didn’t have the blog?
Probably designing earrings, I always have one creative hobby. My previous two were earring-making and blowing glass.
What is your favorite beauty tool?
My teeny tiny nail art brush.
