Meet the fingertip and family-oriented Eng Smith of @sisterlacquer as we interview her one-on-one!
What got you into nail art?
I’ve always loved to paint my nails, but didn’t really get into it until about a year ago. I needed a creative outlet that would allow be to be at home with me children and I found that it really helps me relax and unwind. My good friend Melissa was also a big inspiration to me. I recently jumped into the blogging world. I’m excited to try it out to see how I like it.
Tell us about either the first bottle of nail polish or first manicure/nail art you remember having.
My friend Melissa gave me my first indie polish called Freezing my Baguettes Off from Loaded Lacquer and I fell in love with it. I had never owned anything like it and it was just such a beautiful polish. I then added a simple stamp with circles and colored in the circles. That mani opened the door to my creativity, I have learned a lot since then and I’m amazed at how far I’ve come.
What sort of things will readers find on your blog?
It will be mostly be about my nails, but I’m sure my kids will make an appearance now and then.
What’s your favorite nail art you’ve done? What inspired you to try it?
My favorite mani is one I did recently – it’s an antique rose with script in the background. It reminds me of the 50’s because that’s my favorite decade. This sounds silly but I almost cried when it was time to take them off.
What do you do outside your blog?
I’m a full-time mom. I love being home when my kids get home from school and being there for them when they need me. I love it!!! When I’m not painting my nails I enjoy doing photography and Zumba. I usually do nails when my kids are asleep or on days I don’t have much on my plate. Sometimes it’s hard to find time to do my nails because there are a lot of things going on at home, church, and in the community.
What’s one secret to a successful blog you can share?
I don’t have one but if anyone wants to give me some tips I won’t refuse them.
What is your absolute favorite color of polish?
That is a hard one for me. I love colors!!! But if I have to choose one it would be soft pink.
How many different polishes do you own?
I have A LOT!!! I have a few over the counter polishes, and lots of indie polishes.
Which celebrity’s nails would you jump at the chance to design?
That is a hard one for me, I do admire Angelina Jolie for all the humanitarian work she does. I would paint her nails white and then draw a stick figure family on them. I read that she had her kids draw on her wedding dress. That was so touching to me.
What’s your favorite nail trend?
I love florals, and anything glittery!
What’s your favorite base and top coat to use?
I like to use yellow stopper as a base coat because I can peel off my polishes once I’m ready to change (which is every day). As for top coats, I love two indie brands. One is from Sassy Cat Lacquer, but it tends to smear my stamped images when I apply it. The other one is Top With Love by Love, Angeline, I ordered a bunch of that during Christmas and I’m really happy with it.
Are you close with other bloggers or indies in the community?
My closest friend would be Melissa, but I’ve come to love the nail community. They are always so supportive of one another. I have come to love and appreciate each artist’s unique style. I feel like I have a friend in almost every part of the world.
What else would you be doing if you didn’t have the blog?
Well, learning to sew. That always fascinates me, that might be my next big thing.
