Behind the Scenes: Metropolish

THE STORY: Metropolish

THE ISSUE: September/October 2014 (p. 84)

THE TALENT: Ami Vega (@amivnails)

THE BACKSTORY: When we spotted the beyond sophisticated trend of combining red and black on nails backstage at Fall/Winter 2014 New York Fashion Week, we knew we needed to do our own spin on it. The runways touted crimson and noir French manis, but we wanted to up the design ante. So we enlisted supremely talented nail artist Ami Vega (@amivnails) and tasked her with taking this trend to its chicest point for our story, “Metropolish,” found in the September/October 2014 issue of Nail It!. From ombré snakeskin to hand painted filigree details on clear tips, Vega’s nail art creations oozed citified cool—which makes sense: Red and black are two hues reminiscent of the chicest city on earth, Manhattan, New York. With the Big Apple as the backdrop, the nails in “Metropolish” are all about cosmopolitan polish with a Downtown edge.
