“Keeping Up with the Kardashians” starlet Kylie Jenner caused a social media firestorm with the release of the first product from her makeup line the Kylie Lip Kit. According to the reports, the matte liquid lipstick and liner duos sold out within 10 minutes. As a result (and thanks to the set’s recognizable drip design on the packaging), greedy cosmetic connoisseurs pilfered them from doorsteps and mailboxes around the country.
As fans waited for the products’ restock, they took to Instagram to show off their Lip Kit-inspired manis. The makeup maven quickly followed suit: In true Kardashian/Jenner fashion, the photo of her baby blue and black drip digits instantly turned into a genius marketing move. The snap garnered more than 1.3 million likes and created eve more buzz for the product’s second shipment, which—surprise, surprise—sold out in record time. Kylie’s Paint Drip How-To:
- Prep the nail. Apply two coats of light blue polish and let them dry.
- Using a dotting tool, apply four dots of black polish to the center of the nail.
- Then, use a detail brush to paint black lines connecting the dots to the edge of the nail. Fill in the tip of the nail with black polish. Once dry, carefully float one or two coats of top coat over the design, as black polish often smears.
Creating the design with gel polish? Only cure the nail once all of the paint drips are connected.
