Here’s a way even beginners can mix up plain polish: the splatter effect. Jennifer of @aggiesdoitbetter demonstrates how to get the look.

  • List of supplies:

    • Coffee straws
    • Painter's tape (or masking tape)
    • Star hole punch
    • Tweezers
    • Glue-based basecoat (or tape for nails)
    • Zoya Summer Tickled Collection (Ling, Wendy, Tilda, Kitridge, Rooney, Rocha)
    • Fast dry topcoat
    • Black polish (Zoya Raven)
    SLIDE 1 OF 10
  • Step 1:

Punch out star shapes from masking tape and set aside.

    SLIDE 2 OF 10
  • Step 2:

Start by painting all the nails black. Apply glue base (or tape) around nails for easier cleanup.

    SLIDE 3 OF 10
  • Step 3:

Dip straws into polish, tap out the excess polish, and then blow onto nails. Use a different straw for each color.

    SLIDE 4 OF 10
  • Step 4:

Peel off glue base from fingers and use Q-tips (or a nail art brush) to do any extra clean up with acetone.

    SLIDE 5 OF 10
  • Step 5:

Apply quick dry topcoat and wait until dry (often about an hour).

    SLIDE 6 OF 10
  • Step 6:

Place star cutout in desired place. Be sure to leave a bit hanging off the nail for easier removal.

    SLIDE 7 OF 10
  • Step 7:

Paint over exposed nail with black polish.

    SLIDE 8 OF 10
  • Step 8:

Use tweezers to remove star cut out.

    SLIDE 9 OF 10
  • Step 9:

    Apply top coat!
