Nail Art Tutorial: Silver Monarch Butterfly Nails

Nail Art Tutorial: Silver Monarch Butterfly Nails

03.20.14

By James

We’ve seen traditional orange monarch butterfly nails, but the look becomes almost magical in a silvery sparkle and pink. Click through as Susie of @DailyPlanetIntern shows you how to get this design.

  • What you need:

    1. Silver polish
    2. White striper polish or a thin striping nail art brush
    3. White polish
    4. Magenta/Red polish
    5. Dotting tool

    SLIDE 1 OF 8
  • Step 1:

After cleaning your nails and applying your favorite base coat apply silver polish.

    SLIDE 2 OF 8
  • Step 2:

Using either a thin striper brush or white striper polish add a small semi circle in the bottom right-hand corner of your nail at the cuticle.

    SLIDE 3 OF 8
  • Step 3:

Next add a larger arch above your first and connect the two with straight lines.

    SLIDE 4 OF 8
  • Step 3:

Next add a larger arch above your first and connect the two with straight lines.

    SLIDE 5 OF 8
  • Step 4:

Now slightly fill in the top corners of each segment so they resemble flower petals.

    SLIDE 6 OF 8
  • Step 5:

Fill in your free edges with white polish. Don't worry if it looks a bit crude at this point, a good thick topcoat will iron out any leveling issues.

    SLIDE 7 OF 8
  • Step 6:

Taking your dotting tool add dots with magenta/red polish for the spots on the butterfly's wings. After allowing your polish to dry to avoid smudging your design seal in with your favorite topcoat and enjoy!
