How to Do Pinup Girl Makeup

How to Do Pinup Girl Makeup

By James

You may have already seen this nautical nail art by @infinitelypolished. We were so found of it, we wanted to design a whole look to go with it – and asked Doria of BeautyPopStop if she could guide us through it. Doria took the look in a vintage direction, inspired by pinup girls of the 40s and 50s. The makeup look she created as a result was classic but sexy – a strong red lip, filled out lashes, and rosy cheekbones. Doria shows us how she did it:

What you need for the eyes:

What you need for the face:

What you need for the lips:

  • Step 1:

On lids primed with Nars Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Primer (upper lid area only) and Inglot #351 Eyeshadow from brow to upper lash line, lightly define the outer crease with MUFE #172 Eyeshadow.

  • Step 2:

Blend MAC Concrete Eyeshadow into the crease.

  • Step 3:

Deepen the crease by blending MUFE #172 into it and sweeping it below the outer portion of the lower lash line - this will be the only thing you do to define the lower lash line as this is inspired by the 40s and 50s when women did not always heavily define this area of the eye.

  • Step 4:

Blend MAC Orb Eyeshadow into the inner corner; tight-line upper lash line and line lower waterline using MUFE Aqua Eyes in 0L.

  • Step 5:

Apply Faux Lash falsies in Colette to upper lash line; use a push brush to apply MUFE #172 Eyeshadowalong the upper lash line/falsie band to hide it.

  • Step 6:

On skin prepped with Whip Hand Cosmetics Set the Stage Primer, color correct under-eye circles and other discoloration. I used Graftobian Pink Hi-Lite, which is meant to color-correct gray-brown discoloration—the color of my under-eye circles.

  • Step 7:

Apply Rouge Bunny Rouge Quinoa Cream foundation to the face—or whatever shade suits your skin tone best. I used Wayne Goss’ brush #01 to apply my foundation—my absolutely favorite foundation brush.

  • Step 8:

Lightly set foundation with MUFE HD Pressed Powder and subtly contour cheek bones, sides of the nose, jawline and edges of the hairline using MAC Sculpting Powder in Sculpt. Use Hourglass Radiant Magenta blush on cheeks and MAC Shaping Powder in Accentuate to highlight.

  • Step 9:

Line and fill lips with MUFE Aqua Lip in 8C, apply Ardency Inn Long Play Lip Vinyl in Original Mix and line outer perimeter of the lips with OCC Cosmetic Colour Pencil in Anti-Feathered. Define brows with Inglot Brow Powder in #565—or whatever shade complements your brows best.

There you have it! You’re now officially ready to greet some cute sailors with your fluttery lashes and perfectly red pout.
