TopCoat nail artist G shows you how to recreate these Chloé-inspired nail art designs.

No matter if you like a little bit of nail art or a lot, we have you covered with our “Less + More” column in every issue of Nail It!. For the September/October 2014 issue, we tasked San Francisco-based TopCoat nail artist G with creating both subtle and all-out nail art designs based on this “Bold Brass” Chloé tunic from the fall 2014 runway. Not only did she create two looks for the magazine, but an extra two for online! Follow these step-by-steps for all four designs!

Step 1: Polish two coats of Essie Licorice. Allow them to dry.

Step 2: Using OPI Pure Lacquer Nail Apps in Positively Shocking and nail scissors, customize the shape of the nail appliqué by cutting half a hollow square.

Step 3: Peel off the backing of the nail appliqué and, using tweezers, carefully place it onto the nail at the cuticle area.

Step 4: Adhere a square stud above the nail appliqué using nail glue or top coat. Tip: G usually uses kneaded rubber or poster tack at the end of a dotting tool, toothpick or orangewood stick to pick up any studs/rhinestones.

Step 5: Seal the entire nail with Seche Vite Fast Dry Topcoat. Follow by painting Formula X For Sephora Mind Over Matter matte top coat in the negative space of the hollow square only.

Step 1: Polish two coats of Essie Licorice. Allow them to dry.

Step 2: Create a half moon with Formula X For Sephora in Invincible. Allow it to dry.

Step 3: Apply Formula X For Sephora Mind Over Matter matte top coat to the black portion of the nail only.

Step 4: Apply Seche Vite Fast Dry Topcoat over the half moon, as well as over the free edge to create a shiny, deep French tip.

Step 5: Adhere a round gold stud right above the half moon. Tip! Place small drops of glue directly to the bottom of the studs, being very careful not to use too much glue so it won’t run and ruin the matte finish.
